Coronavirus and its effect on charities(April 28, 2020)
Alan is a trustee of four charities, all of which have been dealing with their unique problems caused by the lockdown situation. Doncaster Conversation Club (of which Ann is also a trustee) works with asylum seekers and refugees in Doncaster, and has been meeting weekly by telephone to ensure that those of our clients with particular needs are able tohave those needs catered for. Glenthorne Guest House, a Quaker guest house in Grasmere which is also a charity, has been forced to close, and has needed us to manage care for its staff and arrangements for its future reopening. Our Area Quaker Meeting has been forced to spend much time considering how to deal with our paid staff, and how tomake best use of the furlough scheme. And last, but by no means least, the local choir has had to consider whether to pay its accomapmist while we are unable to meet - and if so, what with!
